1 ️⃣ Critical Dimensions

Before sending a drawing, make sure these dimensions are clearly marked:

✅ Rod diameter and tolerance (for example, 3 mm ± 0.01 mm)

✅ Overall length and the length of the working head

✅ Diameter and position of the mounting hole or connection end

✅ Any taper, groove, slot or flat surface requirements

Acceptable formats: PDF, CAD (with GD&T), STEP/IGES, or a physical sample for measurement.

2 ️⃣ Tolerance and Straightness

General tolerance

For liquid handling applications, surface finish is not about appearance - it is about function. A rougher surface traps liquid and increases carry-over and contamination between samples.

4 ️⃣ PTFE Coating and Its Effect on Fit

When a PTFE (Teflon) coating is applied, remember that it adds thickness. Film thickness ranges from 0.1 mm to 0.3 mm, depending on the coating type:

Black - high adhesion, heat resistance Silver grey - water repellency Green - electrical insulation

For parts with tight mating fits, the coating thickness must be considered in the base dimension calculation, or the coated part may not fit the mating sleeve.

1. Measure rod diameter and length against the drawing

2. Check straightness by rolling the rod on a flat surface or using a dial indicator

3. Inspect the polished surface for scratches, pits or uneven areas

4. Verify coating uniformity and film thickness if PTFE coated
